This is a course that studies color theory through the landscape. It will provide a foundation for painting with gouache on paper while working (with flexibility for restrictions) outdoors in nature, plein air style. Students will be introduced to the history and practices of color theory, while studying art historically significant examples of landscape painting. No prerequisites are required, though a background in the basics of drawing is recommended.

Students can expect our remote teaching to be up to 4 hours of remote meeting per week and 6-8 hours of asynchronous coursework/independent work time per week, using Canvas and Zoom. I will offer alternative assignments and ways of participating if conditions or illness prevent students from accessing our synchronous meetings, which will allow students to earn comparable credit.
