NOTE:This program builds on the fall quarter program, “Social Entrepreneurship and Graphic Design," but that program is not a prerequisite. Students new to Social Entrepreneurship are welcome!

Social enterprises can be non-profit or for-profit. What defines them as social enterprises is their commitment to serving the public good and being sustainable. In this two-quarter program, we will use an interdisciplinary approach learning how to imagine, plan, build, manage, fund, and sustain social enterprises.

Each quarter, students will develop a new set of skills to support their social entrepreneurship and to accomplish positive social change in their community. Topics covered in this program include Business Planning, Financial Management, Marketing, Networking, Negotiation, Leadership, Staffing and Organizational Development.

Each quarter, along with reading, reflective and creative writing, individual and team exercises, and seminars, students will actively apply their learning in projects, exploring key issues in social enterprise development.

Students signing up for 12-credits (CRN#20344) will have the opportunity to perform an in-program internship project with a local social enterprise you engage or an in-program Independent Learning Contract (ILC) developed with your faulty for the 4 additional credits.
