This is a course that examines practical applications of presentation, documentation, business skills, and career planning specific to being a working artist. It provides a foundation of practical information to assist art students in building a successful career. The course consists of lectures, discussions, readings, presentations, and demonstrations. We will cover artist resumes, artist statements, grants, artist residencies, and graduate school applications. We will discuss taxes for artists, working with galleries and museums, websites, and promoting and documenting your artwork. The class will spend a significant amount of time discussing types of art/media venues and the appropriate contexts for different types of work.
A strong body of artwork and dedication to practice is encouraged, though not required.
