The Prior Learning from Experience Program allows people with significant professional and/or community-based experience to kick-start or accelerate a college degree.
The prerequisite to this program is successful completion of one academic quarter of Writing from Life.
Students receive significant support from peers and faculty in assembling a portfolio of documentary essays that show “college equivalent learning” gained through professional and/or community-based work.
Students earn credit through a combination of coursework, and separate faculty assessments of completed documentary learning essays. This separate and economical assessment and award of credit for prior learning speeds time to degree. Students completing a PLE portfolio generally describe the experience as “transformative,” helping them to understand the college level equivalence of their professional and community-based experience, as well as preparing them for future academic and professional work. Required technology to be successful: computer or equivalent, internet connection, access to Canvas and Zoom. Synchronous (live on Canvas/zoom). Our approach will emphasize participation in synchronous sessions; however, if students find themselves unable to participate due to technology, caregiving obligations, economic disruption, health risk, or illness, they can work with the faculty to pursue alternate options to earn program credit.
