printmaking

In this exploratory class, students will learn the art of screen printing and block printing on fabric using ink and dye. Students will gain a strong understanding of creating original designs in these two historically traditional printing techniques to produce their own repeating patterns or vignette designs. This is a hands-on class that focuses on the studio practice and recipe journals to understand the materials with a scientific sensibility. Students will work collaboratively in the studio classroom to problem solve various approaches to the pliable nature of woven material. Working side-by-side, this class is designed to support each other and develop innovative techniques through experiments and discussions.
