The emphasis  of this course will center on introductory digital skills with smart phones, handheld digital cameras, introductory color theory, image editing, sequencing and presentation. The essential elements of the class will in either case will include photo assignments, exercises, critiques and investigations into contemporary and historical ideas of photography as a medium. Students of this class will develop a basic understanding of the language of photography, as a communications tool and a means for personal expression. Students must invest ample time outside of class to complete assignments.

To successfully participate in this program, students will need access to reliable internet, a smartphone with the ability to download free apps and/or DSLR camera

Students can expect our remote teaching to be around 1-2 hours of remote meeting per week and 4-6 hours of asynchronous coursework/independent work time per week, using Canvas and Zoom. Students will have access to alternatives to synchronous participation if conditions require. There may be optional on campus outdoor activities.
