This course will serve an introduction to painting through an investigation of landscape, the figure and still-life . It will provide a foundation for painting with gouache on paper through mostly synchronous Zoom sessions, with a strong focus on color theory. Emphasis will be placed on developing technical skills through observational painting, while researching  art historically significant works to develop a personal   vision.   No prerequisites are required, though a background in the basics of drawing is recommended.

Our work will be conducted remotely using both Canvas and Zoom. Students can expect our remote teaching to be up to 4 hours of remote meeting per week and roughly 4 hours of asynchronous coursework/independent work time per week, using Canvas and Zoom. I will offer alternative assignments and ways of participating if conditions or illness prevent students from accessing our synchronous meetings, which will allow students to earn comparable credit.
