In this course students will learn digital design tools and techniques in the context of representation of Native peoples' culturally present visual styles. In this first-of-three course, we'll learn digital illustration tools in the Adobe Design Suite, applying the new skills to creative work with Native design. We'll study current problems of representation, cultural property, and artistic freedom through readings and research, and we'll read foundational writing on digital design. This course is intended to demystify digital design and publishing for students in Native fields of study.
