This class provides instruction in the use of digital recording equipment, microphone design and placement, mixing approaches, signal flow, monitoring techniques, room acoustics, and signal processing. There will be written assignments based upon the critical analysis of song form and industry related topics. In addition, students will record local musicians or self composed projects and will produce final mixes.

Required Textbook: Modern Recording Techniques 9th edition Huber and Runstein

Required Tools for remote learning: Pro Tools subscription and computer that meets the software requirements, Audio Interface. Headphones and microphones are available for check out at Media Loan

Students can expect our remote teaching to be around one hour of synchronous (scheduled) coursework per week, and 6 hours a week of asynchronous (self-paced) readings and/or project based work. Students will have access to alternatives to synchronous participation if conditions require.

Subscription to Pro Tools, student discounts are available for $99 one year or $299 for a perpetual license. Students need a computer that meets the software requirements and Audio Interface.
