This first quarter of a year-long sequence covers the beginning of the second year of Japanese language studies.  Students must be familiar with basic verb forms and elementary kanji letters.  Students will build on previous skills and learn new grammar and vocabulary so they can function in a variety of situations.  Classroom activities include presentations, watching video clips, and discussion. Students will continue their kanji studies at their own levels in small groups.  We will discuss Japanese culture and life throughout the course.  The class is conducted primarily in Japanese. Students who have already completed two years of Japanese may join this class and study at the third year level.

This is a good preparatory course for students interested in participating in Evergreen's exchange program with University of Miyazaki or University of Hyogo in Japan.

To successfully participate in this course students need to have a computer with a camera, internet access, and the required textbook/workbook. Students should expect to spend 1.5-2 hours per week in synchronous meetings using Zoom. Students will have access to alternatives to synchronous (in person or remote) participation if conditions require.
