First Year Japanese III is part of a yearlong sequence and covers the third and final part of the first-year-level Japanese language studies. Students will learn how to function in Japanese in everyday situations by learning useful expressions and basic sentence structures.  Elementary kanji characters will be introduced. Class activities will include presentations and discussion on Japanese culture and life.

To successfully participate in this course students need to have a computer with a camera, internet access, and the required textbook/workbook. Students will spend 2 hours per week (1 hour each on Tuesday and Thursday) in synchronous meetings using Zoom and additional 2-3 hours of asynchronous learning for preparation and review.

This is a good preparatory course for students interested in participating in Evergreen's exchange program with University of Miyazaki or University of Hyogo in Japan.
