Introductory Chemistry
In this online course we will explore topics in chemistry at the introductory college level. It is designed for students who wish to gain an understanding of this field and for those who wish to broaden their liberal arts education by exploring the sciences. Collaborative learning via synchronous Zoom sessions and context-based problem solving will be expected and emphasized. Program activities will include lectures and workshops. Weekly homework assignments and exams will be used to assess student learning.
Topics include: structure of the atom, chemical bonding, the periodic table, chemical reactions, mole concepts, reaction stoichiometry, and molecular geometry. This course will help prepare students for other coursework in chemistry, including General Chemistry (offered in winter quarter as a 16-credit daytime program).
