This course is an intermediate study of the principles and techniques in painting. Emphasis will be on expanded approach to painting what you see through close observation, along with abstraction and building a body of work.

This class will cover a wide range of technical, observational and pictorial painting issues, with an emphasis on the history of painting. Previous formal training in painting is is recommended.

Students can expect a balance of remote and in-person learning, with some instruction online and some on campus. Expect 3-4 hours of class time per week, along with 5-6 hours of asynchronous coursework/independent work time per week, using Canvas and Zoom. I will offer alternative assignments and ways of participating if conditions or illness prevent students from accessing our synchronous meetings, which will allow students to earn comparable credit.
