This three-week class aims to give students firsthand experience of Japanese culture and society as well as Japanese college life. Students will participate in classes in the Department of English Education at Tamagawa University in Tokyo, one of Evergreen's exchange partner institutions in Japan. They will engage in many academic and social activities with Tamagawa students both on and off campus. There will be weekend excursions to sites selected for their historic and cultural importance including Kamakura, the National Noh Theatre (for a special workshop and Noh play viewing,) Kabuki Theatre, and museums. Students will also conduct research on a topic of their choice. They will stay at Tamagawa University’s on-campus accommodation reserved for Evergreen students. Students will have valuable opportunities to observe and experience life in Japan. The planned departure date is Tuesday, June 9 and the return date, Wednesday, July 1. Students may stay longer in Japan for additional travel or research.

The cost of the trip is $3,000:
- Required Fees: $1,200 Program Cost (inducing a deposit);
- Special Expenses: $1,800 (Estimated expenses students will cover themselves for airfare (estimated $1200), food, and local transportation when students are on their own)
