This course is an introduction to the principles and techniques of 2-dimensional design. Emphasis will be focused on learning how to draw through close observation of still life studies, and also through an exploration of collage work. This course will introduce a variety of layout fundamentals to understand the conventions of design using proportion, perspective, scale, value, and composition. Students will also learn simple and direct techniques of how to use Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator computer programs to enhance their work. Students will develop a context for their work through readings and research about historical and contemporary artists. A final portfolio of completed assignments will be reviewed in a group critique at the end of the quarter.
