Do you have an interest in telling a story on film/video? Would you like to learn how to incorporate media or videos into your field of study?

This introductory course in idea development and writing for video/media projects will provide the terminology, language, and skills needed to develop a short moving image project. Students will screen and analyze films, work on developing a short individual project, and write a proposal for a moving image piece (non-fiction, fiction, experimental). Specific skills and questions students will explore include: idea development, ethical considerations in film making, film analysis, defining genres, how to pitch an idea, proposal writing, and fundraising strategies. Sessions will include asynchronous (pre-recorded) lessons, screenings, and live zoom classes.

No knowledge of film/video is required, but those with prior filmmaking experience, or who already have ideas they would like to develop, are encouraged to take the course which can be scaled appropriately to their skill level.  This 5-day intensive course is a perfect opportunity for Evergreen students and community members to learn new skills that can support a current video project or the development of a new project for use in a future course, parallel ILC, or outside work.

This course is an online offering.  Classes will feature asynchronous exercises that students will complete on their own to break up the zoom days.

Students taking eight credits will have additional required class meetings and project work.
