This class looks at the American criminal justice system after arrest through the lenses of history and legal studies. Students will face difficult questions about difficult topics and be asked to read critically, think openly, and dialogue respectfully within a distance-based learning community. The class will be taught online through the Canvas virtual learning environment, a chat room for live webinars, and email. Topics include custodial interrogation, prosecution, jury trials, sentencing, and others. Attendance at a one-time, Zoom orientation session is required on Monday, June 20, 7:00 to 9:00 pm.
