This introductory Chinese course will emphasize the standard Chinese pronunciation and the building of useful vocabularies. Students with no or little prior experience will learn Chinese pinyin system and modern Mandarin Chinese through interactive practice and continuous small group activities. Learning activities may also include speaker presentations and field trips. Chinese history and culture will be included as it relates to each language lesson.
To successfully participate in this program, students will need to use zoom to communicate with the faculty and to complete all assignment and a final presentation. Students can expect our remote teaching to be a blend of asynchronous (self-paced) and synchronous (scheduled) coursework. We will have 4 scheduled hours weekly via Zoom meetings with the faculty and the class, as well as use the Canvas program site for assignment and resources. Students will have access to alternatives to synchronous participation if conditions require.
