analytical chemistry

This course is the first of two in a series designed to give students a solid foundation in analytical chemistry. Topics covered in winter include electronic components, instrumental noise, quality assurance, sampling and sample preparation, mass spectrometry, spectrophotometry, and an introduction to separations.

Students will view asynchronous video lectures and engage in weekly discussion and problem-solving sessions. We will have home lab activities in winter quarter and either home or in-person activities in spring quarter (depending upon conditions).

To successfully complete this program, students should have access to a computer, internet for synchronous activities, and access to Canvas. Students should expect to participate in up to 2.5 hours of synchronous meetings per week using Zoom in Canvas. Alternative assignments will allow students to earn comparable credit if conditions prevent them from accessing synchronous meetings.

This offering will prepare you for careers and advanced study in:

chemistry, biochemistry, biology, environmental science
