April's Big Idea: It's About Time. These days everyone is talking about time: artists, psychologists, urban planners, neuroscientists, poets, physicists... you name it. Evergreen faculty members Trevor Speller, Shaw Osha, and Greg Mullins have just wrapped up a program in which they invited students to study modernist art and literature by way of reflecting on how technology has revolutionized our relation to time. They will share reflections on asking today's students to unplug from the internet, to use typewriters rather than computers, and to approach art and literature slowly. The experiment offers lessons for all of us, whether we are glued to Twitter feeds or nostalgic for slow food and long summer afternoons.
