National Summer Institute | Follow-up Visits

What support from the Washington Center can you expect after the National Summer Institute is over? A follow-up campus visit with experienced learning community consultants will help you implement the campus action plan developed at the National Summer Institute on Learning Communities.

Site visits usually last a day and involve a range of activities, including a professional development event. On most campuses, faculty find it useful to have at least two hours of time dedicated to designing integrative assignments. In addition, when teams have been teaching in learning communities for a while and have examples of student work, a site visit can include an opportunity to use the collaborative assessment protocol and reflect on the learning which the learning community program is making possible.

Follow-up campus visits are also opportunities for teams to engage in broader curriculum planning, develop assessment plans, review progress, work through challenges, meet students about their learning community experiences, and strategize with administrators.
