Learning Communities National Summer Institute | Background The National Summer Institute has been held since the mid 1990s. It brings together teams from institutions across the country with experienced learning community practitioners. Many teams have found attendance at this intensive institute invaluable in creating, expanding, and improving their learning communities program. Participating institutions are both public and private, with two-year and four-year programs. The work of these teams at the Institute varies, depending on their institutional and program needs. Resource faculty for each year's institute are selected based on the needs each team identifies. Institute Site The Evergreen State College is a public liberal arts college located on southern tip of Puget Sound in Olympia, Washington. Since 1971, Evergreen has offered students team-taught interdisciplinary programs. Teams stay in student residences that include private bedrooms, semi-private baths, and shared living areas. Meals are served on campus. Other Resources Teams who are unable to attend an Institute or need more immediate assistance may arrange for a campus visit by a Washington Center consultant. These experienced learning community practitioners can conduct workshops, facilitate retreats and offer tailor-made consulting for your program. These colleagues are also available for follow-up campus visits. Home | About the Center | Campus Visits | Events | Projects | Publications
