National Summer Institute | Application Process

Eighteen to twenty-five teams are selected for each year's Institute, representing a balance of institutional types. Applications are reviewed for project focus, team composition, and potential impact on student learning, persistence, and graduation. All colleges and universities are encouraged to apply, whatever their stage of learning community development.

Teams range in size from five to nine members. Each team should include a lead academic administrator, a student affairs professional, faculty who teach—or who will teach—in the learning community program. Other key team members include the person responsible for faculty development on campus and a person who works on assessment. Teams have also found it useful to include counselors, academic advisors, and librarians.

We begin accepting applications in September of each year. The application deadline for the 2012 Summer Institute is December 9th, 2011. Teams are informed of their acceptance by mid-January.

The cost for the 2012 institute is $1,090 per team member.

The application takes some time to complete and requires some institutional data. You can download an application. Please e-mail completed applications to the Washington Center by December 9th, 2011 for best consideration for the 2012 institute.
