Arlen Speights, M.F.A.
Arlen Speights is here to help remove barriers to building skills in digital technologies—for expression, for communication, and for experimentation. He teaches topics in digital art and illustration, audio and video production, digital photography, internet media, and music; he emphasizes pathways to name and overcome technical and political obstacles against making new media a part of students' voice in their communities and in the world.
Arlen holds advanced degrees in Integrated Electronic Arts (MFA, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, 1994), American Indian Studies (MA, The University of Arizona, 1996), and Music Composition (MM, Louisiana State University, 1991). He came to Evergreen from the State University of New York College at Oswego, teaching courses in art history and graphic design. He is active in national academic communities in Native American Studies, in electronic music, and in new media.
