Tacoma Campus at Evergreen
Students comment on The Tacoma Bridge Program
"My experience and journey with the Bridge Program for the academic year 1999-2000 was an excellent learning experience. The Bridge program helped me in several important ways such as, collaborative learning skill building through class projects, leadership building skilled through class participation, and interaction with the upper division students through seminar lecture series classes. I truly believe and support the Bridge program for future student participation, I entered to learn and departed to be prepared to move into the upper division program at the Evergreen State College Tacoma campus. The Bridge program was an excellent journey- Keep the program funded an existence!"
- Quintin M. Page, former Bridge student
"Being a Bridge student has been an awesome educational experience. Before the bridge, I never felt that I would be able to accomplish the goals that I have dreamed about. The instructors, the environment, and the interdisciplinary approach to teaching fostered me to expand my way of thinking and my way of learning. Not only does this program satisfy traditional educational requirements but also, it magnifies each student's opportunity to become a better speaker. It has truly been an experience of a lifetime!"
- Donna E. Griffin, Bridge graduate
"The reasons I like Bridge Program because, first of all, evening classes allowed me to balance my job and my family time. I was able to keep my working regular hour and able to have spent five days a week to complete my assignments so that weekend could focus on my family time. Second, I like the collaboration works that allowed me to come out from the shell and voiced my opinion freely without feeling embarrassed or afraid of saying anything wrong. It also exposed me to The Evergreen State College learning style, which I now join. Last but not least, I love all the faculties and the students that were always there to support me through my tough and rough time. So, thank you for all your support."
- Samantha Yeun, Bridge graduate Spring 2000
"I found the Bridge Program to be conducive to my style of learning. The small class size enabled me to take part in my learning as well as attain personal assistance if needed. The time spent in the Bridge Program prepared me for the learning culture of The Evergreen State College Tacoma Campus. The Bridge Program was only a good learning environment; it was also of sharing and caring. If it not been for this program, I don't think that I would have attended college."
- Brenda F. Long, Bridge graduate Fall 1999"The Bridge Program, there are so many great things that come with this program. Just being inside of the Bridge classroom is an experience it self. What impacted me the most were the public speaking skills I developed. It was not just form the public speaking class, but from all of the classes. The people are so friendly, whenever I had to do a presentation, all the smiles I saw took tremendous pressure off me."
- Andre Fleming, Bridge graduate Winter 2000
"What the Bridge Program Meant to Me - The Bridge Program has improved my way of thinking, learning and how I react to different situations. So therefore the Bridge Program meant a lot to me in many different ways. This program provided me a chance to really see who I was, as well as what I am capable of doing. The Bridge Program provided me with strong learning styles, and bringing out the best in me. It also proved to me I do not have to just stand and be counted like some number. However, this program improves my ways on how to take a stand and be heard. The Bridge Program was like a family to me, when I hurt or struggle, there were always someone there to pick me up and give me that encouragement saying, "you are not alone, you can do it". Thanks to the Bridge Program, I am now a junior at the Evergreen State College."
- Robert L. Cockrell, Bridge graduate Spring 2000
