Self Managed Activities for Recyclables & Trash
S.M.A.R.T. was implemented by Facilities Services and designed to make recycling easy and accessible while changing the act of disposal into an opportunity to recycle. With the closure of the landfill in Thurston County, the school sends its trash to a landfill in Klickitat County, which increases the cost of disposal and makes recycling more important.
Each S.M.A.R.T. station is centrally located on each floor of all academic buildings. These stations allow for recycling mixed waste paper, aluminum and tin cans, glass and plastic bottles, and provide a place for non-recyclable waste. Along with recycling stations in academic buildings, the program also allows for recycling in student housing.
