Council of Public Liberal Arts Colleges (COPLAC)
COPLAC stands for the Council of Public Liberal Arts Colleges, an organization that has been championing a classic liberal arts college education at an affordable price for over 20 years.
The COPLAC mission is to identify and support high quality public liberal arts and sciences institutions. The institutions that make up COPLAC are distinguished by their commitment to provide a superior education to undergraduate students. These selective institutions have been recongnized nationally as outstanding in many diverse ways, including small classes, innovations in teaching, personal interactions with faculty, opportunities for faculty-supervised research and supportive atmospheres. Most of these colleges are located on beautiful campuses in rural or small-town settings.
COPLAC was started by Presidents of small public liberal arts schools to share experiences and create a cohort. COPLAC currently has 25 member colleges in 23 states and Canada. Evergreen has been a long-standing member of COPLAC. In 2001, Evergreen hosted COPLAC's annual event.
In June 2008, the annual COPLAC meeting was held at Southern Oregon University in Ashland. The theme of the conference was sustainability and Evergreen hosted a best practices panel.
