Please read the instructions
below carefully. Your MAC may not be adequately protected against viruses if
you do not follow these instructions. If you have any questions or run into
any difficulties, please contact the Support
Center at x6627.
Recently, Network Associates
(the owners of Virex Software) stopped supporting older versions of their anti-virus
software. If you are running a version of Virex below 6.1, please follow these
instructions to upgrade and update your software. If you are running version
6.1 already, please see the last two sections on how to update your anti-virus
definition files.
Installing and Upgrading
Virex:
You can determine if you
need an upgrade by doing the following:
- Double-click on your
hardrive
- Open your VIREX
folder
- Click ONCE on
VIREX to highlight
- With your mouse, click
on FILE in your menu bar at the upper left of your screen. Pull down
to GET INFORMATION, and then over to GENERAL INFORMATION
If you have version 6.1, your
application is up-to-date. If is is less than 6.1, please do the following:
- Click
here to access the installer.
- Select "Open
it" when prompted.
- Click the button "Guest"
then Connect
- Click "Install"
once the scan has been completed. Accept the defaults and click "Install"
again.
- Restart your machine
when prompted.
Now you'll need to update your
anti-virus definition files.
Updating the Anti-Virus
Definition Files:
- Open your Hard Drive.
- Open your Virex Folder.
- Open the Virex Icon.
- On the far right of the
window, you'll see an eUpdate button, click on this to update the anti-virus
definition files on your machine.
This should be done at least
once a month. You can schedule updates to happen automatically by following
the instructions below.
Scheduling Automatic
Anti-Virus Updates:
WARNING: This and any
'Scheduled' task may crash a machine that is digitizing video or recording audio.
If you use your Mac to do either of these things, it is STRONGLY recommended
that you manually update your files and NOT set Virex up for Auto Updates.
- Open your Hard Drive.
- Open your Virex Folder.
- Open the Virex Icon.
- Select Schedule/Edit
Schedule from the menu at the top of the screen.
- In the button to the
right of the magnifying glass select eUpdate.
- In the bottom button,
next to the stopwatch icon, choose At Specific Time
- Set the date to the first
day of this month (the fact that it is past is not important), and 8:00. To
change the date or time, you must highlight the number you wish to adjust.
You may either type the number, or use the UP/DOWN arrows to make the changes..
- Click ADD.
- Click on the scheduled
item titled "Untitled" and rename it, if you desire.
