Updated: 23 May 2003
REsponsible Author: Mister 3D Apple provides a method of turning off most computer monitors and hard drives during periods of non-use to save energy. Using this feature can result in a significant savings of electricity and can be easily setup and modified using the following instructions. 1. From your dock, click on the System Preferences icon (the little silver lightswitch and Apple logo) 2. Click on Energy Saver (light bulb icon, second row under hardware) to open the control panel. Set the controls according to your needs. Your computer monitor and hard disk will now turn themselves off after this time passes with no computer activity. When returning to a computer that is in power saving mode, it is best to simply tap the spacebar once and then wait for a few moments while the system returns to normal operating mode. 3. Close
the control panel. Please Note: When your computer
monitor is in power saving mode, it can give users the mistaken impression that
it has been completely turned off. It would be a mistake to press the
computer's "Power" button when in power saving mode as this would actually shut
the computer off. The fact that the computer is still on can be verified
by checking to see that the power indicator is still lit. Technical Support Services Home Page
