Macintosh OS 9 - Setting Up a New Network Printer

Updated 27 March 2002

Summary

These instructions will provide the information needed to add a network printer to your Mac. For this example, I will be adding the Hewlet Packard printer "eme_4v".

IMPORTANT: When choosing a network printer, make sure you choose the right one and set it for "DEFAULT". TSS lables each printer with its name, so walking over to your printer to confirm its name will eliminate confusion. Printing a confidential document to a printer across campus could be embarrassing or potentially damaging to the college.

If you have any difficulties with these instructions, please contact Technical Support Services.

Step 1

From your menu bar (upper left corner), click on the APPLE icon, then pull down to CHOOSER.

Step 2

The Chooser should appear as it does here.

Step 3

Click on the HP LaserJet icon, then scroll through the list of printers until you find the one you would like to add. Double click on the correct printer name.

Step 4

I new window will open for you to choose a printer description. Scroll through the list to find the appropriate printer. Highlight that printer and click SELECT.

Step 5

Next appears this happy little reminder that you have changed you printer, and should visit Page Setup in your applications prior to printing to make sure you have the correct printer choosen.

Step 6

An icon of some sort will likely appear next to the added printer's name in your chooser. There will also be a new printer icon on your desktop with your printer's name. Close your chooser and continue another wonderful day on your Macintosh.
