Are destructive emotions innately embedded in human nature? Can they be eradicated? In recent years, a growing body of Western research has examined such questions of mind and emotion through the perspectives of Eastern psychology and philosophy. Eastern psychology views destructive emotions, perceptions, and behaviors as the primary source of human suffering, and has developed simple but effective methods for recognizing, reducing, transforming and preventing these destructive forms of mind and emotion. Course format includes a one-day retreat for in-depth experiential learning. This course will assist students to meet prerequisites for studies in East-West psychology.

Credits awarded: 4 credits in psychology
