Sustaining Success in Student Affairs

  • Engage in Sustaining Success Initiative to identify opportunities to improve the student experience
  • Invest in people by identifying, emphasizing, and initiating programs/practices that pro-mote professional development, engagement and collegial relationships among employees. For example:
    • Offer staff development opportunities
    • Share professional development opportunities occurring in RAD across the division as appropriate
    • Partner in offering College wellness programs
    • Provide and promote community events
    • 100% on-time completion of staff performance evaluations
  • Advance Student Affairs Assessment responsibilities (e.g. participate in regional small col-leges learning outcomes assessment, explore feasibility of assessing students’ reasons for leaving the College and highly engaged students to inform retention and recruitment; assess LGBTQ, E/W, and Tacoma and Reservation-based Program student support resources)

Recruit & Retain Students

Identify, strengthen, and partner on initiatives that may increase retention, enrollment and access to Evergreen

  • Active and consistent engagement with and reinforce related College initiatives. For example:
    • Long Range Curriculum DTF
    • Academic Statement
    • Strategic Planning
    • Evergreen Student Civic Engagement Institute
  • Act on recommendations to Student Affairs and advocate for initiatives and resources to address enrollment provided by Maguire Consulting. For example:
    • tuition waiver review and communications audit
  • Identify and pursue initiatives to increase enrollment. For example:
    • expand list of potential prospective students via resources such as College Search or SAT/ACT
    • develop outreach to emerging target populations (veterans/JBLM, Running Start, working professionals, Hispanic, and in-state high performing students)
    • implement technological upgrades for student recruitment processes to improve yield
    • continue successful efforts to complete on-time Financial Aid awards to new students by mid-March
    • continue efforts with College Advancement to streamline Scholarship application, award and notification processes
    • explore feasibility of assessing students’ reasons for leaving the College and highly engaged students to inform retention and recruitment
  • Maintain initiatives to improve timeliness and efficiency of student aid programs. For example:
    • complete on-time Financial Aid awards to new students by mid-March
    • partner with College Advancement to streamline Scholarship application, award and notification process-es
  • Enhance first-year student programs/orientation. For example:
    • Develop and appoint new position to provide holistic stewardship of programs
    • Develop a peer mentoring program for fall 2014 new students; identify and implement initiatives to pro-mote community and affiliation with the College
    • Convene work group to develop recommendations for expanding integration of college readiness initia-tives
  • Launch the Veterans Center
  • Increase educational outreach to students about financial literacy
  • Identify opportunities and invest new resources allocated to Recreation & Athletics for maximum return
  • Proactively manage new dining services contract to improve satisfaction and increase use of dining services. For example:
    • establish new committee to manage dining services contract
    • develop financial tracking systems
  • Increase satisfaction and occupancy in RAD
  • Explore improved presence of Student Affairs’ in the curriculum
  • Advance the Greener Commons (online community vehicle) and centralized campus calendar/digital monitor initiative

Foster a Safer & Healthier Community

  • Convene work group to design and implement a funded project that will help “achieve the psychosocial/well-being dimension of Evergreen’s mission—the flourishing of all students as part of the AAC&U’s Bringing Theory to Practice program
  • Refine and articulate sustainable processes, protocols, and parameters for responding to students of concern and devel-op recommendations for improving College response
  • Convene President’s Task Force on Drug and Alcohol Use and develop recommendations for reducing substance misuse at Evergreen and responding to issues associated with substance misuse and align College response to substance use misconduct across departments
  • Improve communication to community about students’ summer wellness resources
  • Identify opportunities and invest new Recreation and Athletics resources for maximum return
  • Establish work group to develop strategic plan for pursuing CRC renovation
  • Review risk mitigation protocol and policy in Recreation & Athletics
  • Provide proactive CRC staff training on the following: locker room management, service animals, customer service, developing initiative
  • Increase educational outreach to students and faculty about conflict resolution options
  • Increase educational outreach about the use of emotional support animals
  • Improve climate for students with disabilities
  • Improve disarming of alarms notification at dispatch
  • Obtain new computers to improve technology in police cars which connect officers to regional law enforcement
  • Assess Police department resources and develop recommendation for sustainable program

Focus on Facilities & Equipment

  • Launch the newly renovated Veterans Center
  • Obtain endorsement and funding for proposal to furnish micro-lounges in the 2nd and 3rd floor Library lobbies
  • Develop plan to refurbish SASS and Health and Counseling Center Offices
  • Explore relocation of Parking Services
  • Obtain new computers to improve technology in police cars which con-nect officers to regional law enforcement
  • Establish covered event shelters near Field 4
  • Explore feasibility of artificial turf field(s)
