Mt. Rainier Expedition

August 30th-September 1st

Date: 8/20/14
Title: Intro to Crevasse Rescue (Required for Mt. Rainier Expedition)
Pitch: We’ll stay on campus for a day of practicing the rope systems necessary to safely extract a climber from a crevasse. Techniques such as the Z Drag and prussiking will be taught and practiced.
Mandatory Pre-Trip Meeting: None
Instructors: Rob Healy, Nick Katolas
Location: CRC Courtyard
Time: 1pm - 5pm
Itinerary: We'll stay on campus for the whole course. Instruction will start with an introduction to the knots and what they are used for and move on to prussiking and z-drag. The class will continue until everyone present are introduced to all the skills.

Date: August 30th-September 1st(Labor Day Weekend)
Title: Mount Rainier Expedition
Pitch: Have you stared at Mt Rainier for far too long always wanting to find out what the view is like from the summit? This three day summit attempt is the pinnacle of TOP’s 2014 climbing courses and your ticket for a summit bid! Participants will need to sign up for The Rainier Expedition and complete Crevasse Rescue Training in order to join the expedition. Participants will also be expected to be responsible for their own physical fitness.

This is a highly strenuous outing and peak physical fitness is imperative to the group’s safety and success.  Please contact Trip Lead Rob Healy at healyr@evergreen.edu if you have questions.  All climbing and camp equipment and food provided by TOP.

Location: Mount Rainier
Time: 5:00 AM 8/30 – 8:00 PM 9/1
Itinerary: We will depart the F- Lot at 5:00 AM Saturday 8/30 for Mount Rainier. We will then ascend to Camp Schurman and make camp there.  We will make a summit attempt the following night, hopefully summiting by mid morning and returning to camp for lunch and recovery. After recovering from the summit push we will pack up camp and descend to the vans the following afternoon.   We will return to Evergreen by 8:00 PM on Monday 9/1.
