Pre-game Meal and Men's Basketball Game with Area Community Leaders - January 26, 2007

Several local community leaders joined President Les Purce, faculty and staff, and student athletes for a pre-game meal and men's basketball game held in the Campus Recreation Center. Although the Geoducks lost to top 25 ranked Eastern Oregon University, they made the best of a tough night slowing down their offense and using relentless man-to-man defense.

Dave Weber, Director of Athletics and Recreation, shares the latest and greatest news about athletics, sports clubs, and intramural sports at Evergreen. President Les Purce visits with Greg and Ann Cuoio during the game. Greg is the city manager of Lacey.

Faculty and Staff Holiday Lunch - December 7, 2006

Members of the Evergreen community enjoy the sixth annual holiday lunch held in the CRC gym. The lunch also provides an opportunity for faculty and staff to bring contributions to Evergreen's Foodbank and Safeplace. Safeplace, a private non-profit organization, is the only advocacy agency and confidential shelter for survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault in Thurston County.

Three hundred plus faculty and staff enjoyed plenty of food, conversation and entertainment.

President's Recognition Dinner - November 8, 2006

The fourth annual President's Recognition Dinner was held to honor the generous support of the college through private gifts to scholarships and endowments. Recipients of the Foundation scholarships and endowments were also honored.

President Les Purce welcomed the 140 dinner guests. Phyllis Campbell, President and CEO of the Seattle Foundation, provided the keynote address.

Olympia's Batdorf & Bronson Coffee Roasters graciously sponsored this year's recognition dinner. B & B's Carolyn Skye (left) and Lois Maffeo (right), visit with Lee Hoemann, Vice President for College Advancement, during the social. The evening provides a wonderful opportunity for graduate and undergraduate scholarship recipients to meet each other. Fellow recipients visit with one of this year's student speakers and recipient of an Evergreen Foundation Scholarship, Myrna Keliher (second from right).

President Purce presented this year's Bud Koons Service Award to James F. Moore (left). Mr. Moore, a '75 Evergreen alumnus, traveled all the way from Lincoln, Massachusetts, to accept the award, which recognizes distinguished service to the college. Prior to the dinner, guests were able to tour the recently completed Modernization Phase 1 of the Daniel J. Evans Library. Major improvements to the library, computer, media, photo services, and the tutoring and writing centers will make the largest building on campus a more effective learning and working environment for Evergreen's 4400 students and 800 faculty and staff.

Jackie Robinson Scholarship Night with the Seattle Mariners - August 30, 2006

All eyes were on home plate at Safeco Field prior to the August 30 Seattle Mariners game as the team welcomed The Evergreen State College's 2006-2007 Jackie Robinson Scholarship recipients.

Just before the 7:05 p.m. start of the game against the Los Angeles Angels, Evergreen President Les Purce and Seattle Central Community College President Mildred Olle joined Mariners President Chuck Armstrong for the presentation of scholarships to Lindi Coles of Richland and Emma Claire Lantz of Tacoma.

President's Commencement Ceremony Lunch - June 16, 2006

Prior to Governor Christine Gregoire's keynote address at Evergreen's 35th Commencement Ceremony, President Les Purce and Jane Sherman hosted a lunch for the governor, members of the Board of Trustees and Foundation Board of Governors, faculty and student commencement speakers, vice presidents and their guests. More than 1300 students received their diploma as an audience of more than 5000 looked on at the college's Red Square.

Approximately 50 guests enjoyed lunch and conversation including Governor Gregoire, President Les Purce and his wife, Jane Sherman.

Concert for Scholarships - March 19, 2006

Evergreen's first "Concert for Scholarships" was held in the Experimental Theatre and featured rockin' blues by Alice Stuart and The Formerlys and high energy funky grooves by The Jude Bowerman Band. Thank you Aramark, Tumwater Printing and The Olympian for making this event possible. All proceeds went to The Evergreen State College Foundation for student scholarships.

President's Reunion Dinner - March 7, 2006

Emeritus faculty, current and former members of the Board of Trustees and Foundation Board of Governors joined Presidents Charles J. McCann, Jane L. Jervis and Thomas L. Purce for an evening remembering Evergreen's past, sharing the present and imagining the future. The reunion dinner was held at the Washington State History Museum in Tacoma. The program featured remarks from all three presidents, student musicians and a collage of photographs highlighting Evergreen people, places and programs from its beginning to present day.

Cal Anderson Dinner and Lecture - January 24, 2006

Evan Wolfson, Founder of Freedom to Marry, civil rights attorney, and longtime leader of the movement for marriage equality delivered this year's Cal Anderson Memorial Series Lecture. The series is a forum to capture the spirit of a reasoned discussion of public policies and ideas that marked Cal Anderson's career.
