The President's Diversity Fund was established by Evergreen's Longrange Planning Committee to provide funding for activities, generated by the Evergreen community, that educate the community and advance our efforts to become more effectively multicultural. Challenging speakers, national discourse and skill-building workshops are all examples of educational activities the fund is intended to support.
How do you apply for funding for your activity?
Applications may be submitted in writing to:
Paul Gallegos, Special Assistant to the President for Equal Opportunity; or
Lee Lambert, Special Assistant to the President for Civil Rights
Library 3103.
Allow sufficient time for your request to be reviewed, anticipating that: 1) additional information may be requested prior to your receipt of a determination and 2) a personal service contract, prepared in advance, may be required to pay a speaker or performer.
Your application must include the following:
- A description of the proposed activity, including its nature, purpose, date(s), location, as well as constituency(ies) for whom the activity is planned. Indicate if there will be a charge for admission.
- A statement addressing how/what the proposed activity is intended to contribute to the TESC community's awareness, understanding, exploration, appreciation, etc., of diversity and/or multiculturalism.
- An estimate of costs associated with the activity. Remember to consider such items as honoraria, travel, materials, advertising, etc.
- A statement identifying the dollar amount requested from the fund and specifying what the requested monies will pay for.

- Please indicate whether financial or other support from TESC community resources other than the President's Diversity Fund have been committed.
- Statements or letters of support are encouraged.
Please recognize that the President's Diversity Fund may not be capable of meeting all the legitimate requests for funding support. The President's designees will make every effort to award funding in a manner to address multiculturalism broadly defined. Applying early may improve the chance of receiving funding.
What kind of activities qualify for financial support from the President's Diversity Fund?
In order to qualify for Diversity funds, proposed activities must aim to promote constructive community discourse about issues of culture and life-style differences faced by the Evergreen community, including but not limited to: issues of race, ethnicity, color, sex, class, sexual orientation, religion, disability, and veteran status.
In addition they should:
- educate about current issues related to multiculturalism, issues that are of immediate concern to the Evergreen community;
- develop the skill of the participants;
- use innovative approaches, creative methods of delivery, or offer diverse viewpoints to explore, enlighten, or;
- complement other campus activities or programs.
Activities should occur during academic quarters, avoiding evaluation weeks. Applicants must be members of the Evergreen community: students, faculty or staff.
Funding will not be awarded to pay for registration, tuition or to provide other "scholarship" or "grant" type support typically associated with conferences, training events, individual projects, etc.
Event producers are encouraged to seek support from other campus sources, in the form of funding, services, staffing, attendance by academic programs, etc. Activities that can demonstrate such community support will receive additional consideration.
