Color captivates the soul and unleashes beauty. The creation of color is equally mystifying and predictable when working with plants, trees, berries, flowers, and/or fungi as sources of dyes. In our class we will be engaging in the dye process with simple common kitchen ingredients to utilizing the photography studio on campus and spaces in-between. We will also have the opportunity to work with our Organic Farm and their principles of environmental sustainability. Our work with customary and modern mordants will be used to create magic and shift colors. Our finished products of hand-dyed yarns, cyanotype dyed cotton, and eco-printed fabric, can ultimately be used to create any kind of fiber art.
