Sustainability Reports and Assessments

Green-house Gas Inventories

The Evergreen State College has inventoried greenhouse gas emissions since 2005 and reports annually to the Washington State Department of Ecology and the American College and University Presidents Climate Commitment (ACUPCC).

ACUPCC Progress Report

Evergreen was an early signatory of the American College and University Presidents Climate Commitment and reports on our commitment and progress regularly, all of which are available through the ACUPCC reporting site.

Climate Action Plan

Evergreen's Director of Sustainability led a Master of Environmental Studies class, Current Topics in Environmental Studies: Climate Action Planning, January through March (winter quarter) of 2009. During this graduate level class, students studied the background and process of completing an institutional plan. The students also worked in groups to complete a quarter long class project of defining carbon emission mitigation strategies specific for Evergreen. This student work provided the foundation from which several workgroups of faculty, staff, and students developed Evergreen's plan to achieve carbon neutrality by 2020. The final plan was completed September of 2009, and our progress continues on this ambitious and challenging goal.

The Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education has developed a Sustainability Tracking, Assessment, and Rating System (STARS) which provides a comprehensive overview of institutional sustainability. Evergreen faculty, staff, and students participated in the early development of STARS and the college was one of several to pilot and evaluate the program prior to rollout.

Evergreen's most recent STARS assessment was performed during academic year 2010-11. The college earned a Silver Star at that time.
