Connecting Studies to Careers
When you want to apply what you’ve studied to the work world, the Career Development Center can help you connect the dots.
People often ask us “What can I do with my degree?” And we always answer, “What do you want to do?”
- If you know exactly what you want, we will point you in the right direction and support you on your journey.
- If you have no idea, we'll help you research with tools like assessment surveys and informational interviews.
The real advantage of an Evergreen degree is that you are able to connect it to things you discover you want to do and are good at. You already have, or are currently learning, the essential skills that most employers are looking for—leadership, communication, problem solving, and teamwork. Doing a self-evaluation gives you the opportunity to explore what you've learned. This will happen often in your career, and is a crucial skill your future employer will appreciate.
Some job applications require you to state a major. Bring in your transcript and we'll match credit equivalencies into disciplines so you can articulate an Area of Emphasis. This is just one of many ways we can help you figure out a way to summarize your schoolwork to show that you meet qualifications.
Whether you are a first-time job seeker or a career-changer, informational interviewing is a great way to gain industry knowledge. Learn how to interview someone in your field of interest and find out their motivation. Learn from the inside out. Gain valuable knowledge about terminology, trends, and tools so you can build your resume accordingly, and grow your network of professionals. We'll help you find the right connections.
Working Together With Advising
The college has many resources to help you link your education to the career you want. Talking to a career counselor or academic advisor, you'll get good advice on planning ahead, grad school considerations, and more.
If you are a current student, you'll want to plan ahead. Connect with Academic Advising to learn what to take while you're here. If you are alumni and want to know what to do now that you're done, or plan on changing careers, call us for an appointment.
We have a special partnership with advising to help you from start to finish, and beyond.
