News briefing to feature Washington's six public college and university presidents

OLYMPIA - Washington's six public college and university presidents will give a joint news briefing in the State Reception Room at the capitol building on Tuesday Feb. 15. The 2:30 p.m. event is a part of the Higher Education Day activities scheduled at the state capitol and around Olympia.
The six presidents will urge the legislature to address the following issues:
- Increasing access to higher education through funded enrollments
- Funding of the state need grant
- Need for capital improvements on the state's four-year campuses
- The economic development benefits of university research
- The public good produced by higher education
- Improving salary competitiveness for faculty and staff
Thomas L. "Les" Purce, President of The Evergreen State College is the Chair of the Council of Presidents and will open the news conference.
Other university presidents speaking are Mark Emmert of the Univ. of Washington, Stephen Jordan of Eastern Washington Univ., Jerilyn McIntire of Central Washington Univ., Karen Morse of Western Washington Univ., and V. Lane Rawlins of Washington State Univ.
