Email Server Failure - January 8th 2005

On December 30th, we began experiencing a equipment failure on the email server that serves faculty and staff e-mail for the college. On Janurary 8th, the server failed completely. Despite redundancies designed into the servers, and our best efforts to save the data, we did experience some data loss.

Effects on Users

Because only some of our efforts to save all data were successful, users will experience some loss of email messages, calendar modifications or task modifications:

Minimal

We were successful in saving all of your data, however a small number of users may encounter an occasional corrupt message, calendar entry or tasks.

Your email and calendar is available now.

Minimal - Delayed Recovery

Delayed Recovery has now been completed.

Your email and calendar is available now.

January 6th

Data has been restored to its state as of January 6th. All email and calendar entries between 1:00a.m. January 6th and 1:00a.m. January 8th were lost.

Your email and calendar is available now.
Dec 30th

Data has been restored to its state as of 1:00a.m. Dec 30th. Some but not all data between January 2nd and 5th was recovered.

Your email and calendar is available now.

In addition most faculty and staff were unable to access their e-mail between 1:00a.m. January 8th and 6:00p.m. January 9th.
