Degree Requirements for Tribal Governance

MPA Tribal Governance Degree Requirements

(Each student must have a 4 credit statistics class prior to admission to Evergreen MPA)

1st Year Core

  • FALL: Context of Public Administration (6 credits)
  • WINTER: Doing Democratic Public Administration (6 credits)
  • SPRING: Policy, Finance and Budgeting for Public Administration (6 credits) (new course)

2nd Year Core

  • FALL: Analytical Techniques for Public Service I (6 credits)
  • WINTER: Analytical Techniques for Public Service II (6 credits)
  • SPRING: Capstone (6 credits)

Tribal Concentration:

  • 1ST and 2nd Year Core (36 credit hours) + 20 Tribal Concentration credit hours + 4 elective credit hours = 60 credit hours

Tribal Concentration Series: (20 Credits)

  • First year Fall: The Path to Sovereignty
  • First year Winter: Intergovernmental Relations
  • First year Spring: Tribal Organization and Structure
  • Second year Fall: Reservation Economies
  • Second year Winter: Policy for Tribal Governments

Capstone Project

  • Second year Spring ( 6 credits)
  • Electives (4 credits)
  • Total credits for degree (60 credits)

Course Delivery

  • Cohort meets 5 times/weekends per quarter
  • Weekends are generally 1- 5pm Fri. Sat. 8-5, and Sunday 8-5
  • First 3 meetings each quarter will focus on a core course
  • Second 2 meetings each quarter will focus on a tribal concentration course
