Reading Endorsement Sequence and Scheduling

Evergreen’s Master in Teaching Program is happy to announce that Washington's Professional Educator Standards Board has approved a reading endorsement program at The Evergreen State College. The five courses in the sequence are offered over two summer quarters.

Foundations of Literacy and Research in Literacy will be offered in the first summer. In the second summer Instructional Methods and Assessment in Reading will be offered. Children’s Literature and Adolescent Literature are offered every other summer; participants will need to choose one or the other to complete the sequence.  Click here for the course credit outline.  Participants may start either summer.

Summer 2012 Scheduling.  The Assessment in Literacy course schedule for Summer 2012 is 8:30a-5p Thu Jun. 28, Jul. 5, 12, 19, 26 - and Instructional Methods in Literacy course schedule is 8:30a-5p Tue Jun. 26, Jul. 3, 10, 18, 24, in the first session of summer school. If you are interested in the Children's Literature course, it will be listed as full session, but meets 8:30a-5p Jul. 31, Aug. 3, 7, 10 - and the rest will be done by submitting work on-line.  The Adolescent Literature course will meet Mondays, 9a-1p, June 25-Aug. 20.

At the conclusion of the sequence, teachers and candidates in teacher preparation programs must take and pass the Reading WEST E (030), a state-required standardized test, and apply to have the endorsement added to their teaching certificates.  See http://www.west.nesinc.com

The classes are also open to paraprofessionals, people interested in becoming teachers, and individuals interested in the development and teaching of reading.
