General Prerequisites
Regardless of endorsement area/s, all candidates must complete the following before starting the Master in Teaching Program:
- 4 credits of college level mathematics
- 8 credits of social science
- 12 credits of writing (which can include writing-intensive courses)
You indicate how you have fulfilled these general prerequisites on the Application Form (PDF). Only courses passed with a minimum grade of C, or 2.0, or a satisfactory evaluation will be accepted.
A grade point average of 3.0 or higher on the final 90 quarter or 60 semester credits of work toward a baccalaureate degree or an equivalent level of scholarship on narrative transcripts is expected for all applicants to master’s programs offered by public institutions of higher education in Washington State.
In addition, a baccalaureate degree from a college or university accredited by its regional accrediting body is required by the beginning of the program.
International students will be expected to provide evidence of English proficiency and financial solvency by
- Providing an official test score from the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) of at least 600 (paper version) or 250 (computer version) or 100 (internet version). This requirement may be waived for international applicants who have completed a bachelor’s degree (or higher) at an accredited college or university in the US with a minimum gpa of 3.0 for the last 90 quarter/60 semester credits.
- Providing a financial statement demonstrating resources of at least $33,034 (USD) to pay normal expenses including nonresident tuition and fees, books, room and board for one year at Evergreen and funds necessary to meet travel expenses. The Office of Admissions must receive this state to issue immigration paperwork.
- If accepted to the program, WEST-B and WEST-E tests required of all MIT applicants will still need to be taken and passed upon arrival in the United States to continue participation in the program.
