These services and facilities are to be used for direct academic support only.

VIDEO DUBBING

To make a copy of the original in the same format as the original VHS to VHS, etc.
There are several support options for making video dubs.  You can dub your materials on a walk-in basis at the Sound and Image Library, Lib 2300K.  You can check out equipment from Media Loan, Lib 2504, hook it up and do your own. Electronic Media can provide up to 6 VHS or SVHS copies of an original tape in any of the below listed formats.

VIDEO TRANSFER

Format changes, i.e. Hi-8  to DV, or VHS to DV, etc.

Electronic Media has the facilities to transfer to or from the following formats: VHS, SVHS, 3/4"SP, 1", Hi-8 (analog only), PAL/SECAM VHS, DVCAM, MiniDV and DVD.

To request dubs or a transfer, take original materials to the Electronic Media front desk in Lib 1501 and ask the desk person to fill out a video workorder in the computer. You may request a receipt if you wish.

  • The turn around time will be within a week. If you supplied an email address, you will be notified by email when completed.
  • You can pick up your materials from the Electronic Media front desk in Lib 1501 when they are ready.
  • Telecine - For more than 3 small reels of Super-8, you will need to splice them together onto one large reel. (You can check out splicers and rewinds from Media Loan. Splicing tape and leader can be purchased in the Bookstore.) All films turned in for transfers must be prepared with at least 6 feet of head and 6 feet of tail leader.  Please be sure films are "A wind" and heads out.
  • If you want to be present during your transfer,  please tell the friendly desk person. Be sure your name and telephone number are included on the workorder. You will be called with a confirmation of your production time.

There are some self-serve transfer capabilities in the Video Transfer Station located in Lib 1520: SVHS, VHS, Hi-8, Audio CD, Cassette Audio, DVCAM with time code window burn and DVD. There's also self-serve VHS-to-VHS transferring in the Sound and Image Library in the Library proper.

For large volumes of work (over six copies) we recommend you use a local vendor offering these services.
