- ARCH INFORM- This database includes over 10000 built and unrealized projects from various architects and planners. The architecture of the 20th century is the ain theme of this database.
- ART AND ART HISTORY - The University Library of UC Davis offers a set of selected Internet resources in Art and Art History arranged in four broad categories.
- ART ATLAS - A database of art gallery contact information, searchable by name, city or artists.
- ART HISTORY RESOURCES ON THE WEB - Chris Whitcombe, from Sweet Briar College in Virginia offers a guide through time, place and types of expression in a well developed, clear taxonomy.
- ART IMAGE CONSORTIUM - Publicly accessible thumbnail image database of more than 100,000 works. Awarded the 2003 Best Reference Site award from the Library Journal.
- ART ON THE WEB - Jeffery Howe from Boston College “boasts more than 1200 art and architecture links, including a section devoted to image collections.
- ART.COM - Search or browse through a collection of over 1.4 trillion product combinations of historic and contemporary art reproductions. 2004 American Business Award winner for best e-commerce site.
- ARTCYCLOPEDIA- Their mission is to become the definitive and most effective guide to museum-quality fine art on the Internet. They offer more than 24,000 links directly to an estimated 80,000 works by 7,000 different artists.
- ARTNET.COM - A free and licensed database of Grove Art Online content, including historical art, artists’ biographies, and materials, techniques, styles and movements.
- ARTstor - From the creators of Jstor, Artstor delivers about 300,000 images with plans to develop the collection to over 500,000 thousand by 2006. This site contains a rounded sampling of art and architecture from European and Asian traditions.
- ASKART- This is a fairly comprehensive resource for research on American artists, catalogging not only thier work but giving more detailed information about the person.
- BOSTON MUSEUM OF FINE ART COLLECTIONS DATABASE - You can access over 27,000 online images from the total database of around 30,000 records, which describe about 9 percent of the collection, including works from areas occupied by Nazi Germany during WWII.

- CORNELL UNIVERSITY IMAGE COLLECTIONS - Provides access to many public art images including the Louis Agassiz Fuertes Image Database of ornithological illustrations. As well, this site offers access to the Hill Ornithological Collection of Beautiful Bird’s and 1,733 images of Indonesian arts and crafts from the Claire Holt Papers database.
- CORNELL/ HERBERT F JOHNSON MUSEUM - Delivers access to over 17,000 images of the Herbert F. Johnson Museum of Art ollection through the Cornell University Library Digital Collections page.
- THE DIGITAL LIBRARIAN - Margaret Vail Anderson provides an easy to use and organized web site dealing particularly in the visual arts.
- THE DIGITAL SCRIPTORIUM - A collection of over 15,000 digitized images from more than 3,500 illuminated manuscripts and documents. You can also search contributing institutions for collections of medieval and renaissance manuscripts and images.
- ENLUMINURES - Provides access to over 14,000 selected images from over 1,200 illuminated manuscripts preserved by French public libraries.
- EUROCLIO.NET - A gateway to museums and history in Europe, useful for finding information on historical museums throughout the European Union.
- GALLERY OF THE OPEN FRONTIER - A collection of over 23,000 searchable photographs and artwork originating from the National Archives. This site documents the continental U.S., west of the Mississippi River and depicts events between the Louisiana Purchase 1803 and 1917 through photography, drawings and paintings.
- GOOGLE IMAGE SEARCH- This is a site that makes it easy to find artwork for reference, though you have to sift through a lot of junk.
- LACMA COLLECTIONS ONLINE - Explore the Los Angeles County Museum of Art's 46,104 artworks; nearly half of their collection, with more to come.
- LEWIS WALPOLE LIBRARY DIGITAL COLLECTION - This site contains over 10,000 images from a 13,000+ collection of English caricatures and political cartoons dating in and around the 17th through 19th centuries. Searchable by keyword or call number, using the there library interface.
- LOC - AMERICAN MEMORY - A digital collection of printed artworks including posters, historic books, magazines and art illustrations.
- LOC - GLOBAL GATEWAY - This site is especially useful for finding access to international and individual digital collections online.
- MANUSCRIPTA MEDIAEVALIA - This database contains a union catalog of medieval illuminated and textual manuscripts in full color or black & white from German repositories, along with selected digital facsimiles of post-medieval published catalogs and inventories.
- THE METROPOLITAN MUSEUM OF ART- Around since 1870, the Metropolitan Museum's collection now contains more than two million works of art from all points of the compass, ancient through modern times. About 3,500 objectsfifty highlights from each of the Museum's curatorial departments as well as
the entire department of European Paintingscan be searched by artist, period, style, or keyword.
- METROPOLITAN MUSEUM OF ART (New York) - Provides access to two databases of online images: browse 10,000+ digital reproductions from the permanent collection, including “the entire Department of European Paintings and the entire Department of American Paintings and Sculpture.”
- MINNEAPOLIS INSTITUTE OF ARTS - Provides keyword searching for over 5,000 digitized objects from its total collection of over 100,000 items that cover many different cultures over time and space. You can also use the collection guide and browse the 5,000 items by culture or medium.
- THE MOTHER OF ALL ART AND ART HISTORY LINKS PAGES- The title is self explanatory, and it's not just hype. There are resources here for almost anything imaginable in the world of art (links to art museums, art schools, online exhibits, and research resources, just to name a few).
- NATIONAL GALLERY OF ART - Search their entire collection of over 106,000 objects and view images for over 5,600 works.
- NYPL DIGITAL GALLERY - Provides "more than 400,000 digital images from New York Public Library collections, including illuminated manuscripts, historical maps, rare prints, and photographs."
- OLGA'S GALLERY - Strong in online images of European and Russian artists, this database offers several indexes to locate galleries by artist name, country, movement or school or a complete index to all persons.
- PERSEUS DIGITAL LIBRARY - A repository of nearly 60,000 images, from institutions and individual researchers from around the world. Relating heavily to the works of ancient Greece and Rome, you can search through pre-defined categories to find images and records that include to architecture, sculpture, vases, coins, gems, and archaeological sites.
- PRERAPHAELITES.COM - Igor Bogdanov offers a searchable or browse capable database of hundreds of images of highly romanticized artwork.
- SEATTLE ART MUSEUM - Search the permanent collection of more than 20,000 works with 12,000 (60 percent) linked images.
- WORLD WIDE ART RESOURCES - An Art History and Image database containing free access to over 80,000 works from over 10,000 artists. Browse by artist name or search using keywords.
