Internships with Electronic Media

The Electronic Media internships are a year-long commitment for fall, winter and spring quarters. They are for 12-16 credits per quarter with room for a 4-credit part-time class or other academic component. The interns work 30 to 40 hours a week and are paid 15 to 19 hours a week, depending on credit distribution. The intern's primary responsibility is focused on supporting specific labs and work areas under the supervision of the staff in charge of the area. The intern group meets weekly to share skills, collaborate on projects, and to facilitate working together on productions and cross training between areas. Other academic & job-related projects include:

  • Attend weekly EM training workshops focusing on hardware, software, and production processes
  • Oversee maintenance and service logs for labs and equipment.
  • Instructional support: Conduct proficiency tests, assist with workshops and prepare written materials.
  • Become familiar with audio/video/media software and learn to troubleshoot common problems.
  • Collaborative intern project: Develop production and team-building skills as a part of a group project.
  • Academic studies: Engage your own academic studies in a group setting and on your own.
  • Attend weekly intern meetings.

The application deadline has been extended for Fall of 2008. Job applications are due before the the Spring Academic Fair or prior to the Fall Academic Fair for transfer students. Qualified applicants will then be contacted to schedule an interview. Any position that is not immediately filled will remain open for applications until it is occupied.


Audio Internship

The Audio Internship position is primarily responsible for instructional and technical support of the audio recording facilities. Other responsibilities include maintenance of analog equipment and computers, lab proficiencies and the setup and operation of small to large sound reinforcement systems. The intern develops advanced technical knowledge in all aspects of audio production systems through readings, independent research and co-production of the Student CD project.

Film/Animation

The Film & Animation Intern provides technical support, maintenance and instruction in the film and animation facilities. Responsibilities include maintenance of film and animation equipment and computer systems, lab proficiencies, assisting with instructional workshops and generating lab documentation. Applicants should have experience with 2D/3D animation techniques as well as some 16mm film production experience.

Media Production

The Media Production Intern works closely with the Electronic Media Producers and student staff to learn management skills for successful planning, technical support and execution of campus productions. This position is responsible for participating in all facets of the production process including client relations, preproduction planning, and production support in audio, video, multimedia and teleconferencing. Work also includes minor maintenance and diagnostic review of equipment, labs, and facilities.

You must be able to work well with clients, customers, faculty, staff, and students. This is a great opportunity to learn all facets of production while focusing on your favorite area of media.

Multimedia Lab

The Multimedia Lab Intern supervises, maintains and teaches in the Mac-based Multimedia lab, and non-linear facilities using Final Cut and other multimedia applications. The Multimedia Lab Intern coordinates student staffing, administers proficiency training, assists with lab hardware and software upgrades, creates lab support materials, and provides technical advice, and instruction. Applicants should be familiar with some, or most of the following applications: Final Cut Pro, After Effects, Photoshop, Digital Performer, Peak, DVD Studio Pro, iMovie and iDVD.

Music Technology Labs

The Music Technology Intern is responsible for the operation of the Music Technology Labs. Responsibilities include studio scheduling, computer and hardware maintenance, and support for proficiency testing and workshops. The intern develops advanced knowledge in all aspects of music technology through readings, independent research and co-production of the Student CD project.

Video Production

The Video Production Intern is involved in a wide range of campus video production and post-production activities. Responsibilities include working on single and multi-camera productions, editing and DVD authoring using Final Cut Studio. The intern learns to produce, direct, and engineer productions as well as shoot with professional video cameras in the field. Other duties include minor maintenance and diagnostic review of equipment, labs, and support of Mini Control operations including duplication and transfers.
