Important news regarding Evergreen's 2011 M.Ed. program.                                                                     Because of enrollment and budget concerns, we will not be starting a new cohort in 2011. How long will it take to complete the M.Ed. Program?

Evergreen's M.Ed. Program is structured so that most students will finish in seven quarters, with a total of 40 credits earned.

When can I start the M.Ed. Program?

Each new cohort begins summer quarter. The full time summer session runs from the end of June or beginning of July through mid-August; then classes meet one evening per week during fall, winter and spring.

What areas of concentration are offered?

The M.Ed. Program offers two areas of concentration:

  • Mathematics Education
  • English Language Learners (ELL, formerly ESL) Education

What is the difference between the M.Ed. program and the Master in Teaching (MiT) program?

Our M.Ed. program is primarily for practicing K-16 educators. The MiT program is for those seeking a Washington State K-12 teaching certificate.

What are the admission requirements?

Admission requirements include:

  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited institution with a grade point average of 3.0 or its equivalent in the last 90 quarter or 60 semester credits of your higher education coursework
  • The equivalent of 4 quarter credits or 3 semester credits in child and adolescent development, lifespan development, or another human development course covering the cognitive, affective, and psychological components of individuals
  • The GRE is not required.
  • A teaching certificate is not required; however, we prefer that you have at least one year of classroom teaching experience.

What are the graduation requirements?

graduation requirements include:

  • Successful completion of all coursework
  • Action research project and presentation
  • passing of the WEST E in either ELL or Mathematics

How do I apply?

To receive a hard copy of our application for admission, please email us or you are welcome to download the application.  Applications are accepted and reviewed on a rolling basis throughout the year. Your application should be received no later than the fourth week of April prior to the summer in which you wish to begin.

  • We will begin accepting applications for the Summer 2011 cohort January 10, 2011.
  • Review of completed applications for this coming Summer’s cohort will begin March 28, 2011.

We will continue to review applications received until the second week of June should space in the cohort permit, but in order to qualify for scholarships and tuition waivers you must be admitted by the May 25th scholarship application deadline.
