Emerging Scholars workshops for the 2012-2013 Academic Year

The QuaSR Center is currently working with faculty teams to integrate Emerging Scholars Program workshops into programs for Fall 2012. Program Overview

The Emerging Scholars Program at Evergreen is designed as an integrated component of programs in scientific inquiry that challenges groups of selected students with rigorous, open-ended, context-based problems in a friendly and welcoming environment. Each workshop group is facilitated by trained QuaSR tutors who strive to promote collaboration and community among participating students. Students who successfully complete the Emerging Scholars component of their academic program are given additional acknowledgment by their faculty in their program evaluations.

Research-Based Teaching

While the Emerging Scholars Program is new to Evergreen, it has long existed at colleges and universities around the country including The University of California at Berkeley, The University of Texas at Austin, and The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. From the program's beginnings at UC Berkeley, it has been shown consistently that students who participate in the program have higher success and retention rates in their fields of study than students with similar academic backgrounds who do not participate.
