The In the Spirit: Northwest Native Arts Market and Festival will once again include an opportunity for patrons and supporters of Native arts to deepen their knowledge and understanding of the art forms of the Northwest region. Tina Kuckkahn (Ojibwe), director of the Longhouse Education and Cultural Center at The Evergreen State College, will facilitate a Collectors Seminar featuring Northwest Native artists and a collector of historic Native art.
Roger Fernandes (Lower Elwha Klallam) works in a variety of art media and will discuss Coast and Puget Salish art and culture. Lillian Pitt (Warm Springs/Wasco/Yakama) will present on her work that is reflective of the arts and cultures of the Northwest Plateau tribes. Melissa Bob (Lummi) will present some of her work as a young, contemporary Salish artist. Jack Curtright, owner of Curtright and Son in Tacoma, will share what to look for in the field of collecting historic tribal art.
These presenters will give collectors and others interested in Native arts an opportunity to hear directly from artists who will talk about their work, art and cultures.
