My last round at Evergreen was a 16 credit animation course taught by Marge. Best class ever and best professor. She will be missed. I am greatful for what I learned from her. I forever have a love for animation because of her.

It's strange when you learn of someone's death months after it happened, but feel the sharp pain of loss as if it just occurred.  I haven't spoken with Marge in many years, but she's someone who helped shaped my experience at Evergreen as a student, an organizer, a budding lesbian and later, as a parent.

Marge was ("was," what an improbable word in this context) funny and smart.  She was articulate, thoughtful and warm.  I liked saying things that caused her to give me a sideways nod and smile, it made me feel good.  We all know people like Marge, the exceptional folks who are so capable and together that in their recognition of us, we feel better about ourselves.

Marge helped her friends, colleagues and students excel, not by being easy, but by demanding participation, quality work and careful consideration of the task at hand.  Marge expected excellence from her cohorts and students and in my estimation, that's what she got.  Marge was a woman of integrity with a gentle presence and wry humor.

I admired Marge as a teacher, an organizer, a partner and a parent and I hope her next journey in the great unknown is filled with goodness. I hope Helen, Asa and her family and friends are surrounded by love and support during this difficult time.

I have just learned of Marge's passing. I'm so sad about it.

Marge was truly special and a significant part of my time at Evergreen. She was a wonderful teacher and mentor.

She was so full of sass and verve that it's hard to imagine she's gone.

She taught Mediaworks the year I took it. She was my advisor and she was so good to me. She was always available for an honest conversation. She was lovable, funny, smart, and had plenty of important ideas to share.

During an eval meeting once, she once told me something that has -to this day- remained the most important piece of information I have ever learned from a faculty.

It was an honor to work closely with her.

She made a real impact on my life and on the lives of many others. That is a life well spent!

Bless you Marge!

She was the best professor I've had here at Evergreen. She actually taught what we wanted to learn, put up with a lot of stupid questions and tolerated a lot of time wasters. In her place I would not of had her patience. She was a committed teacher, that for a change, actually knew the subject that she was teaching and had commercial experience that she would use as source to prepare us for the real world environment. She was a realist with imagination, if that makes since. I for one will miss her. I only had her Experimental Animation course, but it was the best course of my 5 year college career. She has inspired me and I will continue to work in media till the day I die. For every student she taught that wasn't a flake or an unreliable, uncommitted weight on the cla** neck her teaching will live on in their work. I wish I could have signed up for more of her cla** before her passing, but I am happy I got to work with her, even if it was just one class.

Signed,
William A. McDonald

Marge sponsored a project I was involved with in the early days of the Lesbian/Gay Film Festival. She was tough, smart, and one of a kind. She played an important role in promoting diversity at Evergreen and the surrounding community. Thanks Marge for making things just a little bit easier for the rest of us. You'll be missed.

I met Marge while living in Olympia in the 70's-80's. She was indeed a dynamic and caring person. My thoughts and prayers to Helen and Asa and the rest of her family.

During my time at Evergreen, I considered Marge an inspiration. I definitely found myself thinking that I hoped I would be as cool and knowledgeable and stylish someday in my life as Marge was.

I left Olympia a few years ago and had no idea about Marge's health. She emailed not to long ago to answer some questions I had about an animation project I was working on. She was so quick to respond with so much helpful information and wished me the best of luck. Marge was one of the most amazing professors and people and women and animators and artists I have ever met. Much love to Marge's family.

Marge inspired many of us to pursue our dreams. I will miss her but her smile will always be there!
